Asteroid

The asteroid, planetoid, sometimes small celestial body that orbits the Sun, along with other objects in the solar system, as a planet. Unlike planets, asteroids, usually very small, and only a handful of asteroids have reached staggering proportions. The largest asteroid Ceres, which is 580 miles (930 kilometers) in diameter. Several other asteroids have been after the discovery of Ceres in 1801, astronomers have discovered that I know what to watch. Thousands of new asteroids discovered every year.

Asteroid under the Greek minor, which means designated as Auster. UA asteroid of irregular shape collections of various materials, including metallic minerals, and carbon. When a fragment of an asteroid colliding with Earth's atmosphere, then called a meteorite. Flashes of light, which will be a meteor functions by evaporation, when a piece of foreign material reaching the atmosphere damage. Other foreign objects in Earth's atmosphere are called meteorites.

When the planets began to form, the creation of the planet formed asteroids. Most asteroids in our solar system in the belt Äúasteroid, UA, which is located between Mars and Jupiter, concentrated. It is believed that the immense gravity of Jupiter, the formation of asteroids, which may have one other moved into a large planet form may have an impact. In the asteroid belt, the orbits of most asteroids in the group, named in honor of the asteroid or more well-known group.

Other asteroids are in the solar system. High standards for each route were found which had not been closed, but that many other celestial objects, asteroids have orbits defined and determined. Comets are the exception to this rule, with very irregular paths, which are difficult to predict their movements. Some asteroids are also very close to the ground, and it is expected that the major asteroid collision may be a few major events in Earth's geological history. Likelihood of further conflict, because there is very little to alleviate many of the organisms that we call Earth home.

Learn about asteroids, astronomers catalog, along with other celestial bodies, in an attempt to learn more about the solar system and universe. Most asteroids are equipped with a universal number that identifies a unique and asteroids are also given names. Data about asteroids, are published regularly, so that astronomers can determine if an asteroid is a new discovery.
